Herons on the Loose

This is our side yard where we captured a few pictures of the Heron family that lives in our neighborhood. They have been a part of our lives for the 5 years we have lived here and I was thrilled to finally get close enough to photograph them.
They are always strolling the streets and taking their sweet time to cross the road, but we have all accepted them as part of the neighborhood family.
Each year there is a new set of "twins" born and the little group clings together until they are grown and then the process starts all over again.

Above they are headed to the "preserve" that sets to the back of the neighborhood.

Here is the baby racing to catch up to the rest of the family.
It really is fun to watch all the wildlife meandering around our home. We have turtles and rabbits, armadillo and deer, but of this menagerie I like the herons the most as they are comical to watch and easier to film.

Great photos! We have herons here, but they stick to the water areas, like ponds, but definitely not in your suburb neighborhoods!

That's crazy! Our apartment complex is right next to a small wooded area and several times we have seen huge deer come right up to our parking lot. A little shocking when you're in such a large complex.

How neat to see herons walking around your yard. I see the odd one in the bush area across the river from us but they never let humans get anywhere near them.

great photos! we have those birds too and they always run away when I try to take their picture :) They're actually Sandhill Cranes.

I was just going to say ... sandhill cranes! I had no idea they could be quite so tame. I've only seen them at a distance. They're lovely, you're so lucky to be on good terms with them!
